Did you feel a little funny on the inside when you saw the title, “A Godly Wife” at the top of a man’s blog post? I don’t blame you. It made me feel a little funny too—our society shies away from that kind of thing.
As we’ve discussed in previous posts, this podcast series on The Mystery of Marriage from Brookwood Care Ministries lays out the Biblical purpose of marriage and what it means to submit to one another out of reverence for Christ. In the first episode, we discussed Ephesians 5:21. Then we explored the Biblical role of husbands in marriage (Ephesians 5:25-30) in the next two episodes.
I recommend listening to those first three episodes before moving forward.
In Part 4 of the series, I’m joined by fellow Care Pastors, Gene Beckner and Doug Wildman to discuss the passage for wives available at the bottom of this post (Ephesians 5:21-24). You can listen to that episode here:
<Mystery of Marriage Part 4: The Wife’s Part in Marriage>
Once the Biblical standard had been explored, we obviously thought it would be important to get a woman’s perspective on the passage. So Part 5 of the series features an interview with one of Brookwood Church’s female lay counselors for marriage. As a spoiler, we’ll also hear another woman’s perspective on this passage in next week’s post. You can listen to the interview with our lay counselor here:
<Mystery of Marriage Part 5: An Interview with Kerry Hedlund>
As you listen to these podcasts, I encourage you to read the passages being referenced:
EPHESIANS 5: 21-24:
21 And further, submit to one another out of reverence for Christ.
22 For wives, this means submit to your husbands as to the Lord. 23 For a husband is the head of his wife as Christ is the head of the church. He is the Savior of his body, the church. 24 As the church submits to Christ, so you wives should submit to your husbands in everything.
(Ephesians 5:21-24 NLT)
How has spending time in God’s Word changed your view on marriage? I’d love to have you comment below.
