Men can be very mission-minded, so what is a man’s mission in marriage?
As we discussed last week, this podcast series on The Mystery of Marriage from Brookwood Care Ministries lays out the Biblical purpose of marriage and what it means to submit to one another out of reverence for Christ. In the first episode, we discussed Ephesians 5:21. And even though the next verse in the passage begins God’s standards for being a godly wife, we jumped down to verse 25 and spent the two episodes posted here today discussing the husband’s role in marriage first.
Don’t worry. We’ll come back to the verses for wives next week.
In Part 2 of the series, I’m joined by fellow Care Pastors, Gene Beckner and Doug Wildman to discuss the passage for husbands available at the bottom of this post (Ephesians 5:25-30). You can listen to that episode here:
<Mystery of Marriage Part 2: The Husband’s Role>
The following week we wanted to get the perspective of another man on the verses we discussed the prior week. Part 3 (posted below) features Josh, Gene, and Doug interviewing Executive Pastor David Hardy about how this passage has affected his own marriage:

As you listen to these podcasts, I encourage you to read the passages being referenced:
EPHESIANS 5: 21, 25-30:
21 And further, submit to one another out of reverence for Christ…
25 For husbands, this means love your wives, just as Christ loved the church. He gave up his life for her 26 to make her holy and clean, washed by the cleansing of God’s word. 27 He did this to present her to himself as a glorious church without a spot or wrinkle or any other blemish. Instead, she will be holy and without fault. 28 In the same way, husbands ought to love their wives as they love their own bo
dies. For a man who loves his wife actually shows love for himself. 29 No one hates his own body but feeds and cares for it, just as Christ cares for the church.30 And we are members of his body.
(Ephesians 5:21, 25-30 NLT)
I know that I’ve been challenged to love my wife better as a result of working on this podcast series.
How has spending time in God’s Word changed your view on marriage? I’d love to have you comment below.
