Podcast Topic:
COMMITTING MY LIFE AND WILL
There was a time when my life was ruled by anxiety and depression. Everything in me—even the things I thought I enjoyed, was tainted by a need for something I couldn’t find.
I believed that Christ is the savior. I even knew He was the only way to an eternity with God, but there’s a big difference between believing in Jesus and surrendering your life and will to Him.
The third principle of Celebrate Recovery reads:
“Consciously choose to commit all my life and will to Christ’s care and control.”*
“Happy are the meek.” (Matthew 5:5)
I’ve come to believe that the first three principles used by Celebrate Recovery are best described as learning how to seek God. This is a vital thing to learn before God can begin to transform you.
It took me a long time to understand the difference between knowing who Jesus is and actually knowing Him.
In the first two episodes of our series on The Journey of Healing, we discussed the need to realize we’re not God and that we’re unable to control our own behaviors and struggles. Once you truly realize that, you’re left empty unless you realize that there actually is a God and that you matter to Him. That’s where you have a choice to make. Are you willing to commit your life and will over to His care and control?
As my colleagues, Gene Beckner, Doug Wildman, and I prepared to discuss that concept in our weekly podcast, we realized that the topic was deeper than could be explored in one episode. What’s the difference between surrendering your life and your will? How are these actions different and how do you take those actions?
We decided to explore each one individually.
In part 3 of this Brookwood Church Care Ministries podcast series, we discussed what it means to surrender your will to Christ:
<COMMITTING MY WILL AUDIO>
We sometimes think that surrendering our will means asking God for more will-power, but it’s really about seeing our own weakness and relying on God’s strength. That’s impossible for us to do until we’ve truly surrendered our lives to Him. But what does that really mean? That’s the question we explored in part 4 of the Journey of Healing:
<COMMITTING MY LIFE AUDIO>
What was your journey like in surrendering your life and will to Christ? What questions do you have about it in your life now?
I’d love to have you share in the comment section below.
